Mumuni Abu is a population scientist and a Senior Lecturer at the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana, where he teaches, conducts research, and mentors students in both technical and social demography. He holds a PhD in Population Studies from the University of Ghana. He has authored publications in journals such as Population and Environment, Global Environmental Change, Scientific Reports, Environmental Research Letters, Ambio, One Earth, and Development and Sustainability. 

His work focuses mainly on human mobility, climate change, population health and human environment, as well as provides technical support and services to local and international organizations on mainstreaming population variables into development planning. Mumuni worked on several international research projects on climate change, health and migration with collaborators in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia.
